The Rhode Island Philharmonic Music School encourages lifelong engagement with music through comprehensive music education and community partnership programs taught by Orchestra members and other outstanding faculty. We prioritize artistry and education equally. Quality, access, diversity and collaboration are core values.

Community Partnerships

The RI Philharmonic Orchestra & Music School partners with some 100+ schools and other community and cultural arts organizations annually. These partnerships enhance music education programs across our region for over 15,000 students yearly and are often supplemented by sequential instruction on a wide variety of instruments at our Music School. We also collaborate with schools to create unique classroom residencies that connect music and the arts to academic subjects.

Arts Talk

Collaboration with the Rhode Island State Council for the Arts (RISCA), the RISD Museum , and Trinity Repertory Company to assist Rhode Island high schools in implementing arts-integrated curricula.

The Autism Project

Group music therapy classes for students from the Autism Project (TAP) with curriculum designed by RI Philharmonic Music School music therapy faculty. Launched in 2011. Our teachers also participate annually in Camp Wannagoagain, TAP's flagship summer program. Click HERE to watch a short video about the program courtesy of the CVS Caremark Charity Trust.

Blackstone Academy Charter

This partnership provides weekly, in-school music classes on theory and keyboard proficiency; past offerings have included Latin percussion as well.

Jacqueline M. Walsh School for the Performing Arts (JMW)

The RI Philharmonic closely partners with JMW, a performing arts high school in Pawtucket, R.I., and provides a voice residency to music majors. We also provide instruments and other programming for Jenks Middle School (both schools are housed in one facility).

Link Up

Since 2011, the RIPO&MS has partnered with Carnegie Hall’s Weill Music Institute to provide a music literacy curriculum and interactive concerts based on Carnegie Hall’s highly successful Link Up series. Designed for students in grades 3-5, Link Up works in a three-year cycle with different themes each year: The Orchestra Rocks (Rhythm), The Orchestra Sings (Melody) and The Orchestra Moves (movement). LLC

A partnership with the Lifelong Learning Collaborative (LLC) and Rhode Island Chamber Music Concerts (RICMC) to offer an extension class on the repertoire programmed by both the Philharmonic and RICMC during their regular seasons.

Music For Our School

Ensembles comprised of RI Philharmonic Orchestra musicians as well as Music School Faculty travel to area schools to present workshops and interactive performances that introduce students to a variety of musical styles. Additionally, musicians can work with teachers to design residencies and workshops customized to complement specific classroom curriculum. Past successes have included visits to elementary schools to support a school-wide reading week, Jazz Ensembles that provide authentic learning experiences for students in Social Studies programs through demonstrating the music of the Harlem Renaissance, and more! Sophia Academy

This partnership has evolved since its inception in 2017. The RI Philharmonic currently provides a general music program to the fifth grade students at Sophia Academy in Providence, R.I. This curriculum, designed and implemented by a certified music educator, is specifically crafted for the students of Sophia Academy and mirrors the school's mission and core values.

Victoria's Dream Project

Victoria’s Dream Project (VDP) is a performance-based after school string instruction program for students in grades 3-5 at the Agnes Little Elementary School in Pawtucket, R.I. VDP is designed to target the arts opportunity gap and provide students with an immersive experience that fosters and supports their creative, academic and personal growth, while putting infrastructure in place to encourage their future accomplishments. The goals of VDP go beyond elementary school music instruction. In addition to working throughout the school year with students directly in their community, alongside a direct pathway to high-level instruction at our Music School through private lessons and enrollment in our Youth Orchestras, we are expanding opportunities for these students and their families.
